The Normalization of Open Misogyny

On his February 11 podcast, white supremacist Nick Fuentes said: “Our number one political enemy is women because women constrain everything, every conversation, every man, everything.” His solution? “Women get sent to the gulags first, obviously… All women. Every woman and girl is sent to the gulags. We will determine who the good ones are after the fact.”

According to Fuentes women are the real enemy because “They are the ones that are hurting the fertility rate. They’re the ones making us sympathetic to poor people, which are also brown people… When you’re sympathetic to poor people, you’re sympathetic to brown people because brown people are poor.”

I wish I could say this was AI-generated or a fake social media post. It’s not. Multiple news outlets have verified it, and it’s been fact-checked by Snopes.

Misogyny and racism aren’t new in America. Donald Trump didn’t invent them. But over the past decade, rhetoric that once lived on the fringes has been amplified and normalized in ways that should concern all of us.

We cannot shrug this off as “just trolling” or “just words.” Dehumanizing language has consequences. History has shown us that when hatred is minimized or excused, it grows.

Silence is acceptance.
