Democratic policies are pro-life, Republicans are only out for themselves

Updated: Oct 13

Democrats enact pro-life policies that benefit all Americans, not just the rich. Republicans are only out for themselves.

The so-called “Pro-Life” movement is fundamentally pro-government – inserting politicians between women and their doctors – and falls far short on policies that would improve the lives of children, families, seniors, and Americans of all walks of life.

So, while proclaiming they are “Pro-Life,” Republicans have consistently fought against real pro-life policies that would improve people’s lives.

Democrats’ pro-life policies have reduced childhood poverty, expanded the middle class, provided affordable quality health care, lowered drug prices, and expanded access to addiction and mental health services, to name but a few in a very long list.

And the differences between Democrats’ pro-life policies and Republican policies, or lack thereof, could not be more striking:

·        In September, Democrats voted to increase FEMA funding for disaster relief. Republicans voted against it.[1],[2] Now, Republicans who voted against the bill are clamoring for additional funding.[3],[4] Speaker Johnson said the people in their states would have to wait.[5]

·        Democrats voted to continue the expanded child tax credit that lifted nearly 4 million children out of poverty.[6] Republicans let it expire.[7]

·        Democrats protected the Affordable Care Act that has provided access to affordable quality health care for more than 50 million people.[8],[9] Republicans have a “concept of a plan.”[10]

·        Democrats reduced drug prices for insulin and nine other medications. They are negotiating price reductions on another 30 medications that will save Medicare $6 billion a year and reduce recipient’s out-of-pocket costs by an additional $1.5 billion.[11],[12] Republicans opposed it.[13],[14]

·        Democrats spearheaded and protected early childhood education and improvements to schools serving low-income families. Republicans want to cut funding to rural and urban schools by 80% (nearly $15 billion a year).[15]

·         Democrats support living wages for all workers and the growth of unions that has lifted millions of workers out of poverty and is rebuilding the American middle-class.[16],[17],[18],[19],[20]

·        Meanwhile, Republicans cut protections for overtime pay, weakened child labor laws, voted against raising the federal minimum wage, passed numerous anti-labor and anti-union laws, and cut critical funding for worker training and skills upgrading.[21],[22],[23],[24],[25]

When everyday Americans need help, the Democrats are there. Republicans vote only for their own self-interest by taking care of the morbidly rich and large corporations.

Democrats must loudly and proudly proclaim that we are the party of pro-life policies. We prove it every day.
