Governor Josh Shapiro is going all in to oppose the Republican-backed “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,” warning of devastating consequences if it becomes law. The sweeping spending package is nearing Senate approval with Senator Dave McCormick saying that he will vote YES.

Democrats like Shapiro are sounding the alarm on its projected cuts to healthcare, food assistance, and infrastructure. Pennsylvania will be hard hit, but McCormick and other Trump acolytes don’t care.

Here’s what it looks like for Pennsylvania:

·         500,000 Pennsylvanians—could lose health coverage in cuts in Medicaid and elimination of tax subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.

·         140,000 Pennsylvanians, primarily children, seniors and those with disabilities, face cuts to SNAP food benefits.

·         26,000 building trade jobs are at risk, with $3 billion in energy investment threatened in Pennsylvania alone.

·         The bill is projected to add $3.3 trillion to the national deficit.

Shapiro called out Republicans, especially President Trump and Senator McCormick, accusing them of breaking campaign promises to protect Medicaid, cut the deficit, and support unions.

“They lied to win the election,” Shapiro said. “The damage this will do in Pennsylvania and across America is staggering.”

With Senate passage looming, Shapiro’s message is clear: this bill isn’t just bad policy – it’s a broken promise. It’s also a reminder of what’s at stake in this November state judicial elections and the 2026 midterms. Pennsylvanians have a long memory and must hold Republicans at all levels – local, state, national – accountable and vote to remove them from office.
