Summary Executions are not in the Bill of Rights

Trump called for summary execution of those on his “secret list” just in time for Bill of Rights Day, which is celebrated on December 15^th. Bill of Rights Day commemorates the 1791 ratification of the first ten Amendments to the Constitution guaranteeing our fundamental rights like freedom of speech, religion and due process.

In 1941, President Roosevelt first declared December 15^th as Bill of Rights Day. Presidents since have issued proclamations celebrating the Bill of Rights. Until now. Trump was silent with no mention of Bill of Rights Day (at least as of the time of this post).  

Instead, Trump calls for the summary execution of those on his “secret list” of domestic terrorists, targeting and criminalizing political opposition to the administration. The President has made execution of U.S. citizens without trial a national policy. Due process is now dead and gone.

We must demand that our rights remain above the reach of any president or would-be king. Reminding those in power that the Bill of Rights is not a drop-down list of suggestions to be ignored when they’re inconvenient.

Our constitutionally guaranteed personal liberties are under attack by Trump. The President swore an oath to uphold the Constitution but instead issues Executive Orders and unhinged rants that seek to destroy our constitutional order.

And now, Trump has made summary execution of U.S. citizens, extrajudicial killings without trial, national policy. Due process is now dead and buried unless you uphold your oath to the Constitution.

You can no longer say that “he doesn’t mean it” because he does – this is now the policy of the United States. It is past time for you to stand up to Trump to protect the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the freedoms of those you represent.
