When all else fails, go after the family

In a scene reminiscent of the Godfather, Jim Jordan has launched an investigation of Loren Merchan, daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, in a blatant attempt to intimidate Judge Merchan in advance of Trump’s sentencing on September 18th.[1]

Taking a page out of the Trump’s playbook, Jordan is going after the family of Judge Merchan.[2] Jordan has issued a series of subpoenas falsely claiming “unprecedent abuses of authority” by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and “conflicts of interest” on the part of Judge Merchan.[3]

During the trial Trump falsely claimed the Judge Merchan was “totally compromised” because his daughter’s work for Democrats.[4] Death threats against Loren Merchan was the inevitable outcome.

Jordan’s list of fraudulent claims echoes the false and non-sensical claims that Trump and his attorneys made during the trial.

But there was no conflict of interest on the part of Judge Merchan.

Jordan conveniently, or perhaps intentionally, forgets that the New York State Advisory Committee of Judicial Ethics concluded that “the judge’s impartiality cannot reasonably be questioned based on the judge's [Merchan's] relative’s business and/or political activities.”[5]

But facts have never stopped a Trump ally from promoting baseless right-wing conspiracy theories by going after a perceived enemy’s family.

It’s the way mob bosses, and fascist leaders behave.
