Trump Celebrates Big Oil’s Profits While Americans Pay the Price
President Donald Trump says he doesn’t “give a damn” about criticism of his celebration of soaring oil profits while Americans struggle with high gasoline prices. That tells us everything about whose interests Trump serves.
Speaking in Georgia, Trump boasted that America is making a “frickin fortune” from rising oil prices driven by conflict in the Middle East. But who is actually getting rich?
BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, and TotalEnergies reported combined earnings of $53 billion in third-quarter 2026 profits, more than double their earnings a year earlier. Meanwhile, American families are paying more at the pump, leaving less money for groceries, housing, and other necessities.
Trump claims these corporate windfalls as a national victory, but record profits for oil giants are not the same as prosperity for ordinary Americans. Higher fuel costs ripple through the economy, raising transportation expenses and putting additional pressure on household budgets.
Americans don’t need a president who cheers higher oil prices because corporations are cashing in. They need a president who puts consumers ahead of corporate profits, holds powerful companies accountable, and works to make energy affordable.
When Big Oil wins billions and working families pay more, that isn’t a victory for America. It’s a failure of leadership.
